Register for professional tax as an employer or self-employed professional in states that levy it, and stay on top of deductions and payments.
Professional tax is a tax on professions, trades, callings and employment levied by certain state governments (and, in some states such as Kerala, by local bodies) under Article 276 of the Constitution. The maximum amount payable by any person is capped at ₹2,500 per year.
States that levy professional tax include Maharashtra, Karnataka, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and several others. Rates and due dates vary by state.
Late registration, non-deduction or late payment can attract penalties and interest under the state law. Employers remain liable for tax they should have deducted.
We register you under the right category for your state, explain deduction slabs for your employees, and help you file periodic returns and payments. Hiring your first employees? Also see PF & ESI registration.
