Selling products covered by a quality control order? BIS certification – ISI mark or CRS registration – handled from testing to the BIS application.
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certifies that products meet Indian Standards. For products covered by a government quality control order – many electrical goods, electronics, steel, cement, toys, appliances and more – BIS certification is mandatory before they can be made, imported or sold in India.
| Scheme | Covers | Key steps |
|---|---|---|
| ISI mark (product certification) | Most products under quality control orders | Application, factory inspection, sample testing and licence |
| Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) | Notified electronics and IT products | Testing in a BIS-recognised lab and online registration |
| Foreign manufacturers (FMCS) | Overseas manufacturers of ISI-marked products | Application through an authorised Indian representative, with factory inspection |
We identify the applicable standard and scheme, coordinate testing with a BIS-recognised laboratory, prepare the documents and application, and follow up with BIS through to the licence or registration. Working with specialist partners where testing or inspection is involved, we keep you informed at each stage. Also planning quality systems? See ISO certification. Protect the brand on the product with trademark registration.
