GST Annual Return Filing – GSTR-9 & GSTR-9C

What is the GST annual return?

GSTR-9 is the annual return in which a regular GST taxpayer consolidates everything reported during the year – outward supplies, tax paid, input tax credit (ITC) claimed and reversed, and amendments. Taxpayers above the prescribed turnover also file GSTR-9C, a reconciliation statement between the audited accounts and GSTR-9.

Who must file and when

ReturnWho filesDue date
GSTR-9Regular taxpayers; optional for most with aggregate turnover up to ₹2 crore31 December after the financial year
GSTR-9CTaxpayers with aggregate turnover above ₹5 crore (self-certified)With GSTR-9
GSTR-4Composition taxpayers (instead of GSTR-9)30 April after the financial year

Why reconciliation matters

The annual return is where mismatches surface – sales reported in GSTR-1 but not in GSTR-3B, or ITC claimed that does not appear in GSTR-2B. Differences found while preparing GSTR-9 can be paid through DRC-03 before the department raises them. Late filing attracts a per-day late fee, capped at a percentage of turnover.

Our service

We reconcile your books with GSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-2B, prepare GSTR-9 (and GSTR-9C if needed), share it for approval and file it. For month-to-month filing, see GST return filing.
