GST Cancellation – Surrender Your GST Registration

When can you cancel GST registration?

You can apply for voluntary GST cancellation when:

  • the business has closed or been sold, merged or transferred,
  • the constitution has changed so that a new PAN applies, or
  • your turnover is below the threshold and you registered voluntarily (subject to the rules on voluntary registration).

The process

  1. File any pending GST returns.
  2. Work out tax payable on stock and capital goods held on the cancellation date (reversal of input tax credit).
  3. Apply in Form GST REG-16.
  4. The officer issues the cancellation order, or asks for clarification.
  5. File the final return, GSTR-10, within three months of the cancellation order.

Cancelled by the department?

If your registration was cancelled by the officer – for example for not filing returns – you can apply for revocation within the time allowed after filing the pending returns. We handle revocation applications too.

Our service

We check pending returns and ITC, prepare the REG-16 application and follow up until the order is issued. Changing details rather than closing? See GST registration amendment. Closing a company? See close a private limited company.
